Thanks to Lippe for noticing this Atlantic Monthly article, which discusses the resurgence of grain-growing in the Northeast region of the US. Our bulk section carries grains & flour from three of the farmers mentioned in the article, Wild Hive Farm, Birkett Mills, and Cayuga Pure Organics, all of NY state. Cayuga has been providing us with several unusual grains including live oat groats (suitable for sprouting), freekeh, and farro (AKA emmer). The latter two are forms of ancient wheat, often referred to as heirloom or heritage varieties. Freekeh is known to have a smoky flavor. Check our recipe page for ideas on how to use them.
