Good news for upstate farmers, the NY State Senate passed a law early Wednesday that will temporarily halt a certain type of natural gas drilling. Organic farmers have been concerned that soil and groundwater could be contaminated with chemicals used in the hydro fracturing process. This bill will still need to be passed by the State Assembly and signed by the Governor. The US Senate has apparently postponed debate on a Spill Bill that would potentially include regulation of hydrofracking.
