The White Roof Project is coming to east 4th Street. FABNYC is behind the volunteer efforts, and still seeking people to help paint on Monday August 22nd.
It turns out painting roofs with this special white reflective paint helps reduce the heat island effect in cities, something we’ve experienced viscerally this summer more than ever. This particular project will paint our entire block, 35,000 square feet of roofs. We’re a so-called “model block” to show how the oasis impact can be extended to neighboring buildings.
