from member Tony:
The big NYC Rally to Ban Fracking is coming up on Saturday, June 25, 1pm at Foley Square in downtown Manhattan. Diverse people and groups are joining together to demand a permanent ban on fracking, a form of drilling for gas and oil that threatens our farmland, our water supply, our scenic upstate countryside, our air, and our economy and energy future. Speakers include Josh Fox, Director of Gasland; Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director of Food and Water Watch; Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer; NY State Senator Tony Avella, High School student Lauren Chan, and more. Performers include Reverend Billy and the Earthalujah Choir.
Our aim is to send a loud and clear message to Governor Cuomo: Ban Fracking Now! At 2pm there will be an action, synchronized around the state, to send that message.
Please join us! This is a critical issue for us now and for the future, as the oil and gas companies are pushing hard to open NY State to this terrible practice. And: once you frack, you can’t go back. The water is contaminated for good, the landscape is covered with ugly drilling rigs and other gear, the farmland is gone. There are alternatives to gas, but there are no alternatives to water.
We also need volunteers to help out on the day. If you would like to help, please contact info at nofrackny.org
