SNAP, the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, a federal program, is under threat. From Food Bank for NYC:
The House of Representatives passed a budget that would slash and restructure the food stamp program (SNAP) — leaving millions of New Yorkers unable to afford needed food. What’s worse, it demands billions of dollars in additional cuts from agriculture and nutrition programs — putting at risk the programs that are the single biggest source of food for New Yorkers who rely on soup kitchens and food pantries. New York City’s food assistance network has already lost 6 million meals to federal funding cuts — take action now to protect our hunger safety net.
