Quinn Communicates with Cooperatives

Photos and summary from roving reporter Lippe:

Last Thursday 1/21, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn visited the monthly meeting of the Food Co-op Alliance NYC, to discuss her recently announced Foodworks plan, and receive feedback from NYC co-ops and co-op start-ups.

6 NYC start-ups delivered short presentations, and prepared short written summaries of their missions & progress towards operation. The Foodworks document mentions fostering food co-ops, but exactly how the city could best support start-ups is a more complex question.

There are at least 7 efforts to start store-front co-ops in NYC, including Bed-Stuy, Bushwick, Queens, Fort Greene, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Bay Ridge, and the Lower East Side.
